Restoration of the “House Filled with Sunlight” of Lazar Rosenfeld Nears Completion in Kharkiv

Restoration is nearly complete on the historic building of Lazar Rosenfeld at 8 Chornohlazivska Street (formerly Bazhanova). Kharkiv residents often refer to it as the “House Filled with Sunlight”, a name derived from its large arched windows that allow abundant natural light into the interior.

In October 2013, city officials planned to demolish the building after a series of expert assessments, but the decision was never implemented. In the late 2010s, the building gained a new owner, and in 2019, discussions began about reconstruction under a project by Alter Development.

Restoration work started in January 2022. The building was initially scheduled to be commissioned in summer 2022, but these plans were postponed due to the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February that year. Over time, the works resumed.
