An Abandoned Kharkiv Printing House Turned into an Art Space

A former neglected printing house is being reimagined as a cultural hub aimed at revitalising both the building and its surrounding neighbourhood.

The goal of the centre’s creators is to restore the building and turn it into the main cultural hub of one of Kharkiv’s oldest districts, while also contributing to the development of the street itself.

The building is currently being prepared for restoration, which is being carried out by Alter Development. At present, the team is developing the overall concept of the building, after which work on the preliminary design will begin.

The team plans to allocate most of the premises to cultural initiatives, while the remaining spaces will be leased to socially responsible businesses whose values align with those of the project.

According to Olha Sytnyk, head of the cultural centre, this area lacks “a connecting element that would bring everything together into a coherent — and most importantly, living — story.”
