Watch How the DRUK Cultural Centre Building — an Architectural Landmark — Is Being Restored in Kharkiv

The ongoing restoration of the DRUK building integrates heritage preservation with new cultural functions, including shelters and community spaces.

Last year, a new cultural centre, DRUK, opened in Kharkiv in a former printing house that is an architectural heritage site. This year, the restoration of the semi-basement level has already been completed, while renovation continues in the space where the independent Kharkiv theatre Ocheret will stage performances.

In January 2025, the art space presented a new project to the city — “The Artistic Shelter”, created in the building’s semi-basement. The space includes two conference halls, three workshops, and a shared lobby used as a coworking area or event venue. These spaces are currently available for rent.

The project involved Viktor Dvornikov, a Kharkiv-based restoration architect, head of the NGO Urban Development Platform, and deputy head of the Kharkiv City Council’s working group on cultural heritage preservation.
